SPACES OF EDUCATION IN FILM FESTIVALETTE CIES 2019
Created and funded by the Open Society Foundations’ Education Support Program and hosted at the Annual Conference of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the 2019 Spaces of Education Film Festivalette served as a platform for participants to deeply contemplate the meaning of human progress. The films featured in the fifth edition of this program challenged our cultural values and their implications for education, delving into the intricate web of connections between development and emotional as well as intellectual engagement.
In a world shaped by climate change and guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we enthusiastically embraced the theme of the 2019 CIES conference, “Education for Sustainability.” It provided an opportunity for robust discussions and dialogue surrounding ethical choices that prioritize the long-term well-being of our communities and our planet. This process involved acknowledging the intricate interplay of economic, political, social, and environmental factors and questioning the paradigms that Western civilization has historically advanced in the pursuit of economic progress.
