Dujuan, is a strong-headed, sensitive ten year-old Arrernte Aboriginal boy in Alice Springs, Australia, separated from his homeland bush. His family wants him to “learn both ways” (the Aboriginal and the Western), but his formal schooling and sociocultural context deeply clashes with the Aboriginal teachings that his family instills in him. He has inherited the power to heal in his Arrernte culture, but at his Western school he is failing and aggressive.

His insights reveal his intelligence and potential, “the first ones that had the magic was the First People, that had the land. History runs straight into all the Aboriginals. It travels all the way through from my blood pipes all the way to the brain.” This beautiful, moving vérité style documentary brings us intimately into the fundamental questions of colonialism and its manifestations in modern Western education systems today.
